When energized, current flows through the electromagnet, producing a magnetic field that magnetizes the rotor. The armature is attracted against the rotor, generating friction that accelerates the load to match rotor speed – engaging the clutch. When power is removed, springs push the armature away from the rotor surface, creating an air gap for quick disengagement
